Whangārei: Visible Knitwear Repair Workshop
Whangārei: Visible Knitwear Repair Workshop

Timebank member, Anne Fraser, from Intercept Fabric Rescue Whangārei, ran her 3rd successful and popular visible knitwear repair workshop at H.A.R.E. (He Awhi Rito EnviroHub).

Ā

Anne always prepares her workshops very thoughtfully, bringing free merino clothing for participants to practice on and take home, as well as a big selection of repair materials including colourful fleece and embroidery threads.

She kindly pre-prepared demonstration strips for participants to practice their repair stitches on, eg ladder stitch, Swiss and Scottish darning styles.

Ā

The workshop kicked off with valuable instructions on care for woollens – washing, storing, dealing with moths, de-piling, repairing different types of woollen knits and invisible mends versus visible mends.

Ā

After various demonstrations on repair techniques and needle felting fun, participants got stuck into their own repairs, inspired by Anne’s artistic ingenuity! Colourful conversations matched the colourful threads and woollens spread across the tables – creativity only limited by imagination.

Ā

Participants left the workshop clutching their mending and creative, arty-felted designs on woollen tops.
