More Than a Market – It’s the Beginning of a Self-Sufficient Community
We need to wake up to what is happening around us. Global instability, rising fuel and food prices, fragile supply chains and the increasing cost of living are reminders of just how vulnerable our communities can be. Here in the Far North, our distance from major centres makes us particularly exposed. We cannot afford to assume that the systems we depend on will always be there when we need them.
The Packhouse Market Project is about much more than a market. It is an opportunity to build the foundations of a more self-sufficient, resilient community. A place where we can strengthen local kai production, support local enterprise, establish community food networks, share skills, repair and reuse resources, and create opportunities for people to work together. It is infrastructure for a community that is better prepared, more connected and less dependent on forces beyond our control.

But this opportunity won't happen by itself. And time is not on our side. We need to secure this important community asset and turn the vision into reality. That takes money, people, skills and commitment. There is a comprehensive business plan and $5 million has been pledged by big donors, but it is conditional on the community showing it's commitment by raising the other $2 million needed.
We urgently need financial contributions and volunteers willing to give whatever time they can – whether that's 30 minutes a week or a few days a month. Every donation, every skill and every helping hand makes a difference.
Tai Tokerau Timebank is supporting this project, and the driving force behind the project, Far North Resilient Communities Charitable Trust, is an organisational member. All volunteer work done by Timebank members will earn timecredits.
This is your community. This is your future. What part will you play? Don't wait for someone else to make it happen. Donate, volunteer, spread the word and help us build something that will benefit generations to come. The opportunity is here, but we need you to step forward now.
DONATE. VOLUNTEER. BE PART OF BUILDING OUR FUTURE.
