Whangārei Green Drinks – May

This was a hands-on event with everyone learning how surplus textiles can be up-cycled into mattresses, weed mats and home insulation!
It was popular with local Timebankers who decommissioned zips, buttons, poppers etc, sorting clothing into 3 different bags depending on their composition - 100% cotton, mixed fibres or 100% polyester.
The mattresses are available to buy and come in the usual bed sizes.

This photo of a blue chopping board is made by a Tāmaki Makaurau based, Māori owned company - Critical - (the blue material is a hospital gown.) Check out the website for their extraordinary contribution to a healthier planet.
Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, they create a wide range of every day useful products called Cleanstone - building materials, home furnishings etc, from 100% hard-to-recycle NZ plastic waste that no one else can take. (No additives, no breakable veneers, just recycled plastics.) Completing the cycle at the end of its life, Critical buy it back and reform it into new Cleanstone over and over again.
Contact Judy from EcoSolutions (an Organisational member of Tai Tokerau Timebank) for more information and to volunteer, earning time credits: judy@cbec.co.nz based in He Awhi Rito Envirohub on 1st Avenue in Whangārei.
