Creative Creations Weave their Magic on Whangārei Green Drinkers
Hosted by the 3 way collaboration of Tai Tokerau Timebank, Creative Northland and EcoSolutions, Timebank member, Nyree Sherlock, patiently guided everyone through the creative process of weaving a colourful ojo de Dios and personal zines.
The evening hummed with a meditative atmosphere as adults and children focused their concentration on being creative.
The Ojo de Dios (Eye of God) is a traditional spiritual weaving craft created by the Huichol and Tepehuan indigenous peoples of western Mexico. They are beautiful hanging creations and are very simple to make, only using multicoloured wool and 2 chopsticks.
Zines are personal mini ‘magazines’ created by strategically folding a sheet of A4 paper. They’re wonderful ways to share ideas, stories, recipes, facts, jokes etc – only limited by your imagination.
Everyone went home clutching their creations, after enjoying refreshments courtesy of Whakaora Kai Whangārei.
Green Drinks is a wonderful way to increase your circle of friends as it attracts similar-minded people. Many Timebankers come every month as it gives them the opportunity to make new friends and catch up with 'old' ones!
