We are very fortunate to be having Whangārei April Green Drinks at Dragonfly Springs Wetland Sanctuary.

Come at 5pm to join Jeremy’s walking tour in daylight! Bring warm clothes and suitable footwear to wander through the wetland. And a torch might be very handy!

Jeremy and Pam Busck bought the wetland in the late 1990’s when they heard that developers were planning a 73-house subdivision on it. Overrun with pest plants and filled with rubbish at the time, they have worked tirelessly since 2007 together with 100’s of volunteers, to transform the ‘swampland’ below their home into a fully functioning natural wetland sanctuary.

Work included planting 50,000 native trees, 6,000 reeds, removing rubbish, building facilities, constructing pollutant and pest traps, and assisting local council with drainage from neighbouring floodplains. Dragonfly Springs contributes to the health of Whangārei Harbour.
