Wendy’s weaving background                   Allflax.nz by Wendy Naepflin - New Zealand flax weaving

"I joined my first weaving wananga at Pa Te Aroha marae in Whirinaki, Hokianga in Nov 2010. I fell in love with harakeke (flax) immediately and attended as many weaving wananga and national weaving huis as possible where I did most of my learning thanks to other weavers being generous with their knowledge.

To broaden my depth and understanding of Te Ao Maori I studied whakairo (Maori carving and design) for 2.5 years, deepening my understanding of whakapapa and Maori design.

Eight years ago I took the leap to becoming a kairaranga (a full time weaver). Following tikanga in my practice, supports me to create. I make useful things like kete, potae (hats), pikau (backpacks) etc but I also love to play with contemporary pieces. I find joy in exploring this versatile medium, but it also provides deeper meanings and connections in my life."

Places are limited to 10, so please email janeype.tttimebank@gmail.com to book your place.
